Whistling Swan Inn Featured as Business of the Month

Each month, my banking establishment, Fulton Bank, features an area business at its local branch. This month, the Whistling Swan Inn has a display at the Netcong, NJ branch. I was hard pressed to figure out how to present my bed and breakfast in its best light since I'm not selling a product, but rather an "experience". The final result is pictured to the right.

Everyone has an opportunity to enter my raffle. First prize is $100 gift certificate for a weekend getaway; second prize is a pair of keepsake champagne flutes with the Whistling Swan Inn logo, and third prize is a copy of my cookbook, Innside Breakfast. Winners will be announced in December on this blog.

Check back to see who the lucky winners are.

Headlining Comics Perform Near The Whistling Swan Inn

I love stand-up comedy. So it's going to be a real dilemma this coming Friday, November 23rd, about whether to go and see Richard Belzer at the Stanhope House or Ron "Tater Salad" White at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ.
Richard Belzer AKA
Det. John Munch

Richard Belzer is probably best known for his role as the cynical, sardonic Detective John Munch in the Law & Order franchise. However, he got his start in show business at the Catch A Rising Star Club in New York City, and will be returning to his stand-up roots on Friday, November 23rd at the Stanhope House, as part of their "Catch Comedy Series". The Stanhope House is located at 45 Main Street, a mere three-block walk from the Whistling Swan Inn.

Admission is $35, $50 or $60. For tickets visit  www.stanhopehousenj.com/  or call 973-347-7777.

Ron White AKA Tater Salad
On the same night MPAC will feature Ron White, the Scotch drinking, cigar smoking comedian of "Blue Collar Comedy" fame. Twice nominated for a Grammy Award, White brings his "Moral Compass" tour to Morristown for shows as 7 and 9:30 pm.

Tickets are $47 to $97. The box office can be reached at 973-539-8008 or at www.mayoarts.org.

Why not have a few laughs the day after Thanksgiving? Combine a stay at the Whistling Swan Inn and see one of these performers in action.

Hope to see you there ...

Whistling Swan Inn Survives Hurricane Sandy

The news did not exaggerate the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy. Thankfully, the Whistling Swan Inn came through relatively unscathed with only a couple of pieces of siding flying off...cosmetic to be sure. We experienced a power outage of seven days, but fortunately were able to remain open with back-up generator power. The Jacuzzi jets did not work, but my guests were able to keep warm, have hot showers and a hearty breakfast.

The rest of the community and outlying areas did not fare so well. Whole towns have been decimated, and people are displaced as a result of no power, no water and property damage. And yet, they all maintained an optimistic attitude that was inspiring. My thoughts are with each and every one of them as they try to pick up and rebuild.
Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

This is a perfect time to thank my wonderful staff publicly for their superhuman efforts during this past week. Jessica, my kitchen helper, washed mountains of dishes by hand, because we were not running the automatic dishwashers...she's probably the only 16-year old with dishpan hands, but she never stopped smiling. I guess when you're 16, it's an adventure. Joanne and Maureen, with their usual diligence, made sure the rooms were pristine and kept the laundry at bay so I could focus on taking reservations and ensuring the guests were comfortable. I'm particularly grateful that they did not laugh too hard at the miners' headlights Tom and I were wearing almost constantly.

As they say, we're just going to keep on keeping on...
